MSK Prasad reveals why selectors picked Yuvraj Singh to face England in ODIs and T20Is

India’s chief selector MSK Prasad revealed in an interview to Times of India that India’s swashbuckling all-rounder Yuvraj Singh wanted to play the mentor before he was picked in the squad for the limited-overs series against England.

MSK Prasad and his team received a lot of criticism for picking Yuvraj Singh but the all-rounder didn’t let them down and made his comeback in the most grand manner. Yuvraj Singh scored a match-winning hundred in the second match of the ODI series.

MSK Prasad said that keeping in mind Yuvraj’s form in the Ranji Trophy and his level of fitness, the selectors were confident that he would do well and prove his selection.

This is what MSK Prasad said in the interview with Times of India:

I had a long, casual chat with him. He told me that he wanted to play the senior, mentor’s role in the Indian team. We thought that he still had the hunger to play. We saw that if given opportunity, he will definitely give it his best shot, along with mentoring the team as a senior player,” MSK Prasad said in an interview with Times of India after the end of the Irani Cup match.
