On Thursday, the Bengal pacer – Mukesh Kumar was handed his Test cap ahead of the second match against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Mukesh Kumar came in place of Shardul Thakur, who BCCI revealed was not available for selection due to an injury. “Shardul Thakur was not available for selection for the 2nd Test due to a sore left groin,” BCCI said right after the toss. However, Thakur’s absence paved the way for Kumar in team India.
Notably, the right-arm pacer had managed to break into the Indian cricket team even before but he didn’t get the opportunity. This was the last Test match where he could have got the opportunity to make a debut before their next assignment against South Africa five months later.
