With the long tour of South Africa concluding today, India has its eyes set on upcoming assignments. Among the upcoming assignments, the first would be the T20 tri-series to be played in Sri Lanka.

The T20 tri-series named as the Nidahas Trophy will be played between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The trophy will commemorate the 70th year of independence for Sri Lanka.

As per reports the senior bench of the team will be rested and this means that Virat Kohli too would not feature in this series. With senior players being rested reports suggest that Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the team in Nidahas Trophy. The tri-series will span from 6th March to 18th March and a lot of young faces are expected to be tried in this series.

According to Times of India, Virat Kohli along with MS Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah would not be a part of the Indian squad. Hence, in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the team. BCCI and senior players have agreed to skip this series for its right after a very hectic and long tour of South Africa.

Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in IPL and he was also seen doing captaincy duties in the T20 series against Sri Lanka in December last year. In this side which would exclude the senior players, youngsters like Rishabh Pant and others are very likely to get a nod from the selectors.
