Team India is undoubtedly one of the best cricket teams on the planet however, the Blackcaps have always had the Men in Blue’s number in 50 over matches as they first ousted them from the 2019 World Cup and now, have become the first team to whitewash them in a 3-match ODI series since 1989.
It is interesting to note that the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli was just 4 months old when India last got whitewashed in a 3-match ODI series and that series had happened against the dominant West Indies team.
This defeat has come after the Indian team whitewashed the hosts in a 5-match T20I series played prior to the ODIs. Thus, even though the momentum was in their favor, India could not register a single win. It can be argued that India did not have the services of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the batting unit but given how high India is ranked in the ICC rankings, they should have had proper backup options.
They had scored a mammoth score of 347 runs in the first ODI and still ended up losing while in the second match, India could not chase down the target of 274 runs. KL Rahul’s brilliant century took them to a total of 296 runs in the final ODI however, Colin de Grandhomme’s brisk innings ensured that the visitors lose the series 3-0. This defeat will impact India in the ICC ODI rankings besides, Virat Kohli’s captaincy skills will also come under the scanner because of this loss.

Work- Whitewash.
After being whitewashed in T20’s , great effort from New Zealand to whitewash India in the One day Series.
Bumrah being wicketless in the series was a big factor. #NZvIND— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 11, 2020
