News: Ravi Shastri expresses disappointment after not getting selected for Team India head coach job

Yesterday, the BCCI announced that Anil Kumble will be the head coach for India for a period of one year. 21 candidates including Kumble were in contention for the post. Among them, Ravi Shastri was the main contender along with Kumble. After Kumble was named as the coach, Shastri was left disappointed.

Shastri took control of the Indian Cricket Team after the horrible Test series against England in 2014 along with Duncan Fletcher and was the director of the team until the World T20 this year. Under Shastri’s directorial role India reched the semi finals of the ICC World Cup 2015 as well as the World T20 and beat Sri Lanka in their backyard after 22 long years.

“Yes, for the work put in, and results produced in the last 18 months. But if it (tenure) was for only one year then, not really,” Shastri told Mid-Day.

He however wished Kumble for his new role with the team.

“It’s time to move on and do what you do best. I must say I had the ultimate experience with a young and happening side,” Shastri said.
