Sourav Ganguly Breaks Silence On India’s Poor Show In WT20 2021

Sourav Ganguly

BCCI’s President Sourav Ganguly has finally reacted to India’s shocking performance in the T20 World Cup 2021, and said that he was disappointed with the way Team India played in the tournament.

Dwelling more on India’s performance, Sourav Ganguly said that even when India lost against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy, he didn’t feel it was a disappointing performance.

“To be honest, 2017 [and] 2019, I think India was good. 2017 Champions Trophy we lost the final to Pakistan at the Oval, I was a commentator then,” Sourav Ganguly said.

He also spoke about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in which India lost the semi-final against New Zealand, he wasn’t as disappointed as he was after the World T20 Cup 2021.

“Then the 2019 World Cup in England, we were exceptional right throughout, beat everyone and lost to New Zealand in the semi-final – one bad day and the entire good work for two months was just wiped away,” Sourav Ganguly added.

Then the BCCI President spoke about India’s performance in T20 World Cup and said that it has been the poorest of all what he has seen in the last four-five years.

“[I am] a little disappointed with the way we played this World Cup. I think this has been the poorest of all what I have seen in the last four-five years,” Ganguly said on the show ‘Backstage with Boria’.

While talking to Boria Majumder, Dada said that he felt Indian team didn’t play with the freedom they usually play with and it was disappointing to watch.

“I don’t know what’s the reason but I just felt they did not play with enough freedom this World Cup.

Ganguly also mentioned that there are 8 big tournaments in the next 8 years and India have the opportunity to end their long trophy-less run. Dada said that there is no shortage of talent in the Indian team.

“The next cycle will have eight tournaments in eight years. So, it will be an opportunity for them to turn things around and hopefully in Australia this team will play a lot better. The talent is without any question, the ability of players is without any question, it’s just that I felt the execution in this World Cup wasn’t good,” the former India skipper said.
