There will be no Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the white-ball matches against South Africa on the upcoming tour.

Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are back in the Test squad after injuries, while KL Rahul makes a comeback too, now as a proper wicket-keeper in the Test side. Ajinkya Rahane has been dropped from the Test team.

The BCCI announced India’s squads in all three formats for the tour to South Africa.

The South African tour comprises 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 2 Tests from December 10 to January 7.

The BCCI said that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had asked for rest from the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour.

The duo will play in Tests, and might also feature in the matches for India A against South Africa A ahead of the Test series.

Since Hardik Pandya is injured and ruled out, KL Rahul will captain in the ODIs, while Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in T20Is against the Proteas. Bumrah, who is the Test vice-captain, is also rested from the white-ball matches.

Yuzvendra Chahal makes his comeback in the ODI team, while Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, and Rinku Singh get their maiden ODI call-ups.

It’s interesting to note that KL Rahul is mentioned as the keeper in the Test squad along with Ishan Kishan. This is a major hint that Rahul could be seen donning the gloves in the two Tests, as India might be unsure of Kishan in Test cricket in South African conditions.
