In what comes as a shocking news, star pacer Morne Morkel has announced his retirement from international cricket. The upcoming encounters between Australia and South Africa as Australia tours South Africa would be his last international assignment. Morne Morkel is just 33 years of age and this news is a fact perhaps too hard to digest.

Morne Morkel 83 Test matches for South Africa and has featured for the Proteas in 117 ODIs. Besides these two formats Morne Morkel has played 44 T20 internationals for South Africa and has played 70 games in the Indian Premier League.

Morkel made his test debut in Durban in 2006 against India. Morne Morkel has picked up 294 wickets in the longest format of the game and as for One Day Internationals he has bagged 188 ODI wickets from 117 ODIs.

Morkel has picked up 7 five wicket hauls in the longest format of the game and has been an amazing new ball bowler for South Africa in the longest format as well as limited overs cricket. Morne Morkel also has 47 T20I wickets to his name. In one day internationals Morne Morkel has 2 five wicket hauls.
