However, if you regularly visits Wankhede stadium for watching matches, then you might be aware of the fact that you aren’t allowed to take coins beyond the security check points. If you are carrying coins with you, then you have to deposit those coins to the security before you enter the stadium.
Well, you might not be aware about the security reasons behind doing this. Yes, all this happens because of security reasons as in the past there were incidents like audience throwing shoes, coins or bottles at their favorite team for not performing well. Apart form coins, various things aren’t allowed to be taken inside the stadium.
However, one question that never leaves our mind is what happens to the coins later? Well, learning what happens with the coins might bring smiles on your faces and you won’t regret loosing those few bucks at the security check points.

Whatever money gets collected after the security check is donated to a Hanuman temple near Marine Lines. An official stated that the boxes are not even opened once to check and after every 1 or 2 matches, the boxes are taken to the temple. The officer also mentioned that they don’t have any sort of interest in those money, thus, they are donated in a temple. Sometimes, the amount collected even goes up to Rs 2000 to Rs 4000.
It is really amazing how people at Wankhade are using the amount in an apt manner.
