Parthiv Patel got a game ahead of Wriddhiman Saha in the Centurion Test as Saha was carrying a hamstring injury. Deciding not to worsen his injury, the team management decided to drop Saha and now Saha has been ruled out from the test series due to his injury.

Dinesh Karthik will now fly to South Africa to replace the injured keeper.

POOR SHOW BY PARTHIV PATEL

Parthiv Patel’s catching woes have badly added to India’s trouble at the Centurion. He has been miserable with the gloves rather having dropped some very crucial catches.

Parthiv dropped Hashim Amla and the skipper, Faf Du Plessis in the first innings and he then dropped Dean Elgar in the second innings. Parthiv has let down the Indian bowlers who have worked hard under such hot conditions and more importantly he has let down skipper Virat Kohli.

SUNIL GAVASKAR’S TAKE

Citing Parthiv Patel’s catching woes the former legendary Indian Skipper, Sunil Gavaskar made a big statement. Sunil Gavaskar said that MS Dhoni should not have retired from test cricket so early. Gavaskar said that had MS Dhoni been in the team, the side would have benefitted big time.

Gavaskar was heard quoting, “If MSD wanted to carry on, he could have carried on. Clearly, he might have had too much of captaincy burden. I would have actually liked him to maybe give up captaincy but still continue as a wicketkeeper-batsman. His advice in the dressing room would have been invaluable.”

Later Sunil Gavaskar, the legend also extended great respect to MS Dhoni’s decision to hang his boots in the longest format of the game.

MS Dhoni decided to retire from the longest format of the game in the year 2014 and since then Wriddhiman Saha has been the premier choice for a wicketkeeper in test cricket for India.

Saha’s injury added to troubles of the team in South Africa when the team was already under great pressure post the humiliating defeat at Cape Town.
