England cricket team thrashed Pakistan by 5 wickets in the  ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, November 13. With this sensational win, England has become the first-ever team to hold the ODI and T20I world titles simultaneously. Apart from this, England is also the second team to win the most number (two) T20 World Cups, the first one being West Indies.

The Men in Green were sent in to bat first, however, Pakistan could only score 137/8 in 20 overs with Azam scoring a 28-ball 32 while opening the innings with Mohammad Rizwan, who disappointed as well with a 15-run knock.

Chasing 138 in the summit clash, England did face some troubles as Jos Buttler, Phil Salt and Alex Hales were back in the pavilion with less than 50 runs on the board. Pakistan bowlers gave a great fight and tried everything to defend the total. While everyone was seen struggling, Ben Stokes once again proved why he is the man for big occasions. He emerged out as the anchor of England’s innings and this time played the anchor’s role to perfection.

Ben Stokes took his side to the winning line and won the game for his side. He scored 52 off 49 balls, smashing 5 fours and 1 six as he outplayed the lethal bowling attack of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, after the game, speaking at the post-match presentation, Pakistan captain Babar Azam revealed the reason behind Pakistan’s defeat. While he admitted that the side was short of 20 runs, he also praised his bowlers. He said:

“Congratulations to England, they fought well. We felt like home here, got great support at every venue. Thanks for your support. I just told the boys to play our natural game, but we fell 20 runs short and the boys fought well with the ball. Our bowling is one of the best attacks in the world. Unfortunately Shaheen’s injury put us off, but that’s part of the game.”

The winning captain Jos Buttler was a proud and happy man after the win. He hailed his teammates and support staff after the big win. He said:

“It is. To win the T20 World Cup now, really proud of everyone here. It’s been a fantastic tournament. We went to Pakistan before coming here, which was a valuable time for the group. he has fitted in really well. We have got a few Australians in the coaching staff. Huge swing in the game, fantastic over from Adil. Has been outstanding for us in the last three games, just the guy who makes things happen. When you hit a length there is some movement. We managed to get away to a start but it wasn’t easy.”
