PAK vs IND, Asia Cup 2023: Gautam Gambhir Heaps Praise On Shubman Gill

PAK vs IND, Asia Cup 2023:  One name shined brightly amid the cricketing luminaries on Sunday, September 10 at the R Premadasa Stadium, during the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match between bitter rivals India and Pakistan. Gill’s brilliant batting performance not only showcased his cricketing skills, but also earned him acclaim from the likes of former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.

Gill delivered a stunning performance. He scored 58 runs off 52 balls when India posted 147-2 in 24.1 overs against a strong bowling attack from Pakistan. What makes Gill’s achievement all the more impressive is that it came after Pakistani bowlers gave India an early hard time when they were asked to bat first.

PAK vs IND, Asia Cup 2023: Gautam Gambhir Heaps Praise On Shubman Gill

Cricket icon Gautam Gambhir was recently asked his thoughts on Shubman Gill’s aggressive style, specifically his assault on the fiery Shaheen Shah Afridi, during an interview on Star Sports. The details of Gill’s performance and its setting were illuminated by Gambhir’s analysis.

He said: “The conditions were also different. The conditions you got in Kandy, you won’t get those conditions in Colombo. It was overcast in Kandy but it was quite sunny when Shaheen Shah Afridi started in Colombo. If the ball doesn’t swing much, Shubman Gill can be extremely attacking.”

Gambhir commented on how Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, felt less stress because of Gill’s innings. He added: “You didn’t get to see much swing but I believe the way Shubman batted, if someone removed the pressure from Rohit Sharma, it was Shubman Gill. He played exceptional shots – towards mid-off, over the bowler’s head and then the cover drive. We got to see all types of shots and this was Shubman’s class.”

The way Gill played was nothing short of a masterpiece in cricket. The other bowlers were completely baffled by his impeccable timing and stroke placement. The ease with which he saw the openings was indicative of the maturity and poise he displayed under pressure.

Gill hit the boundary ropes with pinpoint accuracy throughout his innings. Afridi’s second and third overs were particularly fruitful for him, as he hit three boundaries in each. This aggressive and technically proficient performance almost convinced Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam to take his left-arm seamer away from the attack.

Gill’s dogged attack on Afridi’s bowling was about more than simply racking up runs; it was also about setting the tone and establishing his authority. It’s a credit to his cricketing prowess that he can read the game and react with such authority for his age.

Shubman Gill’s amazing performance in the current Asia Cup 2023 Super Four fight has not only enthralled spectators but also earned the respect and admiration of cricket gurus like Gautam Gambhir. Gill’s quality and promise as a future cricketing great are shown by his ability to adjust to changing circumstances, ease strain on his captain, and exhibit a broad variety of strokes.
