The Pakistani government is leaving no stone unturned in the security measures for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament. For that, they have deployed the Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers to ensure the maximum possible security for all players and the fans.

Pakistan is hosting its first multi-nation tournament since the 2008 Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be played from August 30 to September 17 across 4 cities in Pakistan and Sri Lanka: Lahore, Multan, Colombo, and Pallekele.

The tournament will kick-start on August 30 with Pakistan taking on Nepal in Multan. The Asia Cup 2023 comprises 13 matches, out of which 4 will be played in Pakistan – 1 in Multan and 3 in Lahore.

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the Bangladesh vs Afghanistan match on September 3, Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka game on September 5, and on September 6, should Pakistan make it to the Super 4 round, they will play one team from the other group in Lahore.

According to a report in GeoTV, the government had asked for the Army and Punjab Rangers to be made available for security in Multan and Lahore, and the request has been approved. Further, the special forces will be on standby if the need arises.

“The Punjab Rangers will be deployed in the second tier Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs), while the Pakistan Army deployment will be in third tier QRF mode,” the source told GeoTV.

Rajiv Shukla, Roger Binny to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup matches

It has been learned that BCCI President Roger Binny and vice-president Rajiv Shukla will travel to Pakistan to attend an Asia Cup match. The PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf had made a formal invitation to the BCCI bosses on August 15 which has been accepted.

Binny and Shukla will first attend the India vs Pakistan game on September 2 in Pallekele. They will return to India and via Wagah Border will then go to Pakistan for a two-day visit.
