Veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla made a match-winning impact for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their encounter against Delhi Capitals (DC) to help Rohit Sharma’s side record their first win of the season, after defeats in the first two matches.

At the Arun Jaitley stadium, in a last-ball nail-biting thriller, Mumbai emerged victorious by 6 wickets, successfully chasing down the target of 175 on the last ball of their chase, after skipper Rohit Sharma’s comeback to form knock of 65 runs off 45 balls.

Bowling first, Mumbai Indians bossed the middle-overs with their spin pair of senior Chawla and young off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen.

One of the few players to have played in all 15 seasons of the IPL, Piyush Chawla returned with figures of 3/22, his wickets being Manish Pandey, Rovman Powell, and Lalit Yadav.

Parthiv Patel slams journalist for his derogatory tweet on Piyush Chawla

Makarand Waingankar, a senior journalist who’s been in the field for decades, made a tweet lamenting Delhi Capitals’ batting. But in his tweet criticizing the DC batters, Waingankar made a comment on MI Spinner which drew plenty of flak for him.

“Delhi Capitals ? No. It’s Delhi Capitulates. Too many cricketing brains sitting in the dug out but in the middle their batsmen were clueless against a leggie who doesn’t even plays for his state,” Waingankar tweeted, venting out his frustration regarding the DC batting but also while making a disrespectful comment on Chawla.

Former India batsman and now commentator, Former Cricketer didn’t hold back when slamming the journalist back. Parthiv replied back strongly to the journalist, stating that he was part of India’s 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup winning squads and is the joint fifth-highest IPL wicket-taker with 161 wickets, and that he’s still a regular in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“That leggie is a 2 time World Cup winner with 161 ipl wickets his name is PIYUSH CHAWLA…and he does play for GUJARAT as a professional player,” Parthiv Patel shot back.
