Pat Cummins, the Australian captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has made derogatory remarks about Rohit Sharma‘s Indian team since their victory in the CWC 2023 final. Recently, he stirred controversy again at a fan event by telling supporters to be quiet.
Pat Cummins made a “finger on your lips” gesture, reminiscent of his Australian team silencing over 100,000 people in the Cricket World Cup final last year. In a 25-second video clip circulating on social media, fans can be heard chanting “silence-silence” to the right-arm pacer, who initially laughed it off.
Pat Cummins Disrespects Team India On World Cup Final Loss

Pat Cummins’ smile was as wide as MS Dhoni’s when he hit the winning six in the 2011 World Cup final, and his confidence matched the bold statement he made before the final. After a few moments of smiling at the chants, Cummins playfully gestured for the fans to quiet down by putting his finger to his lips. This only fueled the fans’ excitement, as they screamed even louder.
On the eve of the ICC 2023 50-over World Cup final at Ahmedabad’s massive cricket stadium, Pat Cummins talked about facing the pressure of playing in front of over 100,000 Indian fans. Despite India’s 10-match winning streak, Cummins expressed confidence in his team’s ability to handle the challenge. He acknowledged the one-sided crowd but remained determined, stating that Australia would aim for their sixth title and relish the chance to quiet the home fans.
Speaking in the press conference, Pat Cummins said: “I think you’ve got to embrace it, the crowd’s obviously going to be very one-sided. But also in sport, there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent and that’s the aim for us. You got to be up for it, you got to love it and just know whatever happens it’s fine but you just want to finish the day with no regrets.”
