Pat Cummins Roasted A Journalist Who Took England’s Side

Over this current tour of England, Australia captain Pat Cummins has seemingly made it a *good* habit of delivering some iconic, hilarious one-liners in press conferences.

Arguably the best Test pacer in the world, Pat Cummins has led Australia commendably so far, defeating India in the WTC Final, then taking a 2-0 lead in the Ashes 2023 before going down in another tight finish in the Ashes in Headingley as England made a comeback win.

It had started when Pat Cummins had roasted Rohit Sharma, followed by some more funny replies to the English media about Bazball and the Spirit of Cricket controversy in the aftermath of Jonny Bairstow’s run-out in Lord’s.

Now, he’s come up again with another gem of a reply that left the journalists and fans in splits. Even after the loss in Leeds, Pat Cummins had hit wits and gave a cheeky reply to an English journalist who suggested that the win in Leeds had shifted the momentum toward England heading into the 4th Test in Manchester.

Cummins gave a crisp reply saying: “No, not really. It’s 2-1.” This elicited plenty of laughter in the press conference room and on social media as well.

Pat Cummins remains reserved on David Warner’s spot

The major discussion point for Australia now would be how to fit in both Mitchell Marsh and Cam Green in the line-up in the 4th Test. Green didn’t play in Leeds due to a minor hamstring strain, but is set to feature in Manchester with about 9 days of break now. Marsh, who played his first Test since 2019, cracked a century and also picked a couple of important wickets.

The spotlight now comes back on David Warner who was dismissed for cheap scores in Leeds, both times by Broad. Warner has hit one fifty in 8 innings on the tour so far, and a tough decision awaits for Australia.  Cummins, though, for now remained mum on it.

“You keep all options open,” Cummins said. “We’ve got nine or 10 days now, so we’ll take a deep breath. We’ll go away for a few days.

“But everyone comes back into it. Greeny should be fit for Manchester. Josh [Hazlewood] will be back in there as well. So we should have a full roster and we’ll have a look at the wicket and have a chat and work out the best XI.”
