5 Famous Players Who Never Scored A Century In ODI Cricket

5 Famous Players Who Never Scored A Century In ODI Cricket: Achieving a century in cricket is a remarkable feat for any player. In limited-overs cricket, reaching this milestone can be challenging, especially in the T20I format which only consists of 20 overs. However, ODI matches, with 50 overs per side, provide a wider window for batsmen to achieve the coveted century. Yet, there are notable players, revered in cricket history, who, despite their prolific careers, never reached the hundred-run mark in ODI cricket. This list comprises five illustrious players.

5 Famous Players Who Never Scored A Century In ODI Cricket

1. Ian Botham (England)

Known as one of England’s legendary cricketers, Ian Botham finds his name first on this list. Despite playing 116 ODI matches, Botham never managed to score an ODI century. However, his Test career was remarkable with 5200 runs across 161 innings, including 14 centuries. In ODIs, his highest score was 79, and he accumulated 2113 runs with a strike rate of 79.10 and an average of 23.21.

2. Michael Vaughan (England)

The second player in this list is former England skipper Michael Vaughan. He had a phenomenal Test career, scoring 5719 runs at an average of 41.44 with 18 centuries. However, Vaughan, who played 86 ODIs, never hit a century in this format. His ODI career included 16 fifties with an unbeaten 90 as his highest score.

3. Graham Thorpe (England)

Another English cricketer, Graham Thorpe, also finds his place here. Despite his successful Test career, where he scored 6744 runs at an average of 44.66, he failed to score a century in 82 ODI matches. Thorpe did hit 21 half-centuries in ODIs, with a highest score of 89.

4. Misbah-ul-Haq (Pakistan)

The fourth cricketer on this list is Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq. He was unable to score an ODI cricket century, despite contributing more than 5000 runs in the format. Misbah managed to achieve 10 centuries in Tests, with a highest ODI score of an unbeaten 96.

5. Dinesh Karthik (India)

The final name on this list is India’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik. Despite playing 94 ODIs, Karthik has not reached the hundred-run milestone. His highest ODI score is 79, and his only century in international cricket was achieved in Tests.

In conclusion, scoring a century in ODI cricket remains a significant achievement, but not attaining it doesn’t necessarily diminish a player’s worth. These five cricketers, despite not hitting an ODI cricket century, have demonstrated exceptional skills and made significant contributions to cricket. Their performances in other formats, especially Tests, are a testament to their capabilities and highlight the unique dynamics of different cricket formats.
