Prithvi Shaw Made A Big Statement After Getting Ignored By Selectors For The ODI Squad

Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has been knocking on the doors of the Indian selectors with his excellent back-to-back performances in domestic cricket, however, a selection call for the Indian side has eluded Shaw. Because of his fitness and his technique in red-ball cricket, Prithvi isn’t getting preferred over the likes of  Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Apart from his performances, Shaw has been making a lot of efforts to improve his fitness.

Recently, Shaw was ignored for the ODI series against South Africa, which saw several young players make the cut except him. A few days after the squad for the ODI series was announced, Prithvi Shaw said that he was left disappointed as he has been scoring runs consistently, doing all the right things but he is not getting any opportunity.

IND v SA 2022: Prithvi Shaw's cryptic post goes viral after his snub for South Africa ODIs

Speaking to Mid-Day ahead of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Prithvi Shaw opened up on getting ignored by the selectors. He said: “I was disappointed. I am scoring runs, doing a lot of hard work, but not getting a chance.”

He added: “But, it’s alright. When they [national selectors] feel I am ready, they will play me. Whatever opportunities I get, whether it is for India ‘A’ or other teams, I will make sure I do my best and keep my fitness levels up to the mark,”

Prithvi also revealed that ever since the IPL 2022, he has lost 7-8 kgs and has been spending a lot of time in the gym. He said: “I did not work on different things in my batting, but did a lot of fitness work. I worked on weight-loss and reduced by seven to eight kgs after the last IPL. I spent a lot of time in the gym, did a lot of running, didn’t consume any sweets and cold drinks. Chinese food is totally out of my menu now,”
