R Ashwin Hailed Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur showcased his finest batting skills in first-class cricket as he stood firm for his team in a dire situation. With Mumbai struggling at 106/7 after dismissing Tamil Nadu for just 146 runs, it appeared unlikely that they would surpass their opponent’s total. However, Thakur had different ideas. He took responsibility for himself and played a remarkable innings, ensuring that he rescued his team from a precarious position.

Thakur formed a crucial partnership of 131 runs for the eighth wicket with Hardik Tomare, propelling Mumbai back into contention. Thakur displayed aggressive batting, reaching his half-century in just 57 balls. He then unleashed a barrage of attacking shots, putting the Tamil Nadu bowlers on the back foot. Thakur’s innings, filled with glorious strokes, guided Mumbai to a total surpassing 300 runs.

Shardul Thakur reached his first-ever first-class century in a brisk 89 balls, drawing widespread attention with his jubilant celebration. His innings culminated in a remarkable 109 runs off just 105 deliveries, featuring an impressive tally of 13 boundaries and 4 sixes. Thakur’s stellar performance came at a crucial juncture when Mumbai was struggling, turning the tide of the game in their favor. His century has put Mumbai in a commanding position, making them the frontrunners to clinch victory in the match.

Shardul On His New Nickname – Lord Beefy

For the unversed, Shardul Thakur earned the nickname “Beefy” from India head coach Ravi Shastri, a tribute to former England great Ian Botham. This followed Thakur’s remarkable performance, including the fastest-ever Test fifty, in the 2021 series against England at The Oval. Thakur embraced the nickname, seeing it as a flattering comparison to a cricket legend.

“These guys are teasing me with his name. I think it’s good to compare with a great of the game.”

In the current Ranji Trophy match, Shardul Thakur has also made an impact with his bowling. He started the bowling for his team and managed to take two wickets while conceding only 48 runs in his 13 overs.
