Veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin, who is close to playing his 100th Test match, revealed an interesting tactic he employs to gather insights into players’ preparation for Tests. During India’s tour to Australia, Ashwin befriended some members of the media to access footage of players’ training sessions. This unconventional strategy proved successful and provided him with valuable insights.
R Ashwin Made A Big revelation Ahead Of His 100th Test
During the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Ashwin performed exceptionally well with the ball, taking a total of 12 wickets in 3 matches. He notably dismissed Steve Smith three times and Marnus Labuschagne twice throughout the series. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Ashwin said:
“Sometimes I make friends with the media guys and get footage from the backside when the batters are practicing in the nets. When I went to Australia, there were occasions where Marnus and Smith were using their feet and going back in the nets. It really works because I feel human beings are very insecure. The moment they know you have them, you’re winning half the battle,”
Ashwin also commended the Australian and English batters for their adeptness in playing spin and their improved preparation for the series. He added:
“I feel England and Australia batters bat against spin much better than some of our own on occasions because they know this is a very stern challenge, so year across they end up preparing to play spin, like we prepare to play seam and bounce,”
Ashwin is set to mark his 100th Test appearance during the upcoming India vs. England 5th Test. He recently joined the exclusive 500 Test wicket club, becoming just the 9th player overall and the 2nd Indian to achieve this milestone. In the 4th Test, Ashwin secured his 35th 5-wicket haul in Tests, surpassing Anil Kumble’s record for the most wickets in Tests at home. With India leading the 5-match series 3-1, they aim to finish strong in the scenic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Academy Stadium in Dharamsala.
