Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli along with Indian captain Rohit Sharma have been left out of the T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. They were also not part of the Indian T20I team that took on Sri Lanka. This has led to speculation about the future of Kohli and Rohit in the shortest format.
While speculations are at the rise on whether team India has decided to move on from batting icon Virat Kohli, the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has answered the buzzing question in the recently concluded press conference on the eve of the 3rd ODI match against New Zealand. Dravid was visibly not too happy to be asked a question on Kohli’s place in the team and interrupted the reporter mid-way to get his point through about the trust of team management in the former captain.
Yes, you read that right. During the interaction, Dravid answered a host of questions including opinions about Virat Kolhi, Rohit Sharma, and India’s reported split captaincy approach. However, he was left upset when the reporter asked about the questions about the ex-skipper’s place in the team. The reporter asked: “Till last year, Virat’s position in the T20 team was questioned,”
Dravid was quick to cut him short as he responded by making a stern point reflecting the team management’s thoughts saying ‘Not by us. Not at all, never by us!.”

Further, Dravid went on to explain how Kohli’s absence from the T20 squad since the 2022 T20 World Cup came to an end. Dravid stated that the team has has clear priorities and at the moment it is ODI cricket and the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. He said:
“There are certain priorities we need to give to certain white-ball tournaments at particular stages of time. The amount of cricket we are playing…the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the World Test Championship, potential qualification, important games for qualification perspective for us. There are certain white-ball tournaments that we had to prioritise, the priority after the T20 World Cup has been these six games,” Dravid added.
