“Opportunity For Someone Else To Stand up”: Rahul Dravid Made A Big Statement On Jasprit Bumrah’s Absence From T20 World Cup Squad

The Indian cricket team suffered a big blow as star bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 due to a back injury. While it is a big loss for the Indian side going into the marquee event, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid feels it is an opportunity for someone else to stand up in the absence of the star bowler. The Indian bowling unit has come under the scanner after their below-par show in the recent matches. Therefore, Bumrah’s absence is a big blow for team India for the mega ICC event which will be played in Australia.

Dravid also admitted that Jasprit’s absence is a big loss for the Indian side and that the team will miss his presence. Speaking to the broadcasters after the third T20I against South Africa, Dravid said:

“Bumrah’s absence is a big loss, he’s been a great player but it happens, it’s an opportunity for someone else to stand up. We’ll miss him, his personality around the group,”

Further, Rahul Dravid also said that he was pleased with the performance of the Indian cricket team and how things went in the series. Though, the Indian side lost the third t20I match against South Africa, however, India went on to win the three-match series 2-1. Earlier, India had also defeated Australia in the 3-match T20I series. Talking about the performance of the Indian side, Dravid said:

“Good to get the right results in both series. In this format, you need luck, things to go your way, especially in close games. We didn’t have that in the Asia Cup, but had some luck during the Australia series,”

Dravid also revealed that the team management had a chat with skipper Rohit Sharma after 2021 T20 WC and they decided to structure their squad around the depth in bowling. He said: “We were able to rotate the squad a bit, pleased with how it’s gone overall. We made a decision after the last T20 WC, sat down with Rohit, made a conscious effort to be positive. We have the batsmanship to play positively, we had to structure our squad with batting depth. Pleased with the way we’ve come along,”
