The Indian cricket team suffered a big blow ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of action due to a knee injury. 2 days before India’s Super Four game against Pakistan, the BCCI announced that Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 because of a knee injuryThe All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja. On Friday, with an official statement, the BCCI announced:

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon.”

And a day after this update, the PTI has reported that Jadeja will be out for a lengthy period and will also miss the 2022 T20 World Cup. In fact, he has been reportedly ruled out of action for an indefinite period. A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI: “Jadeja’s right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA’s medical team, one can’t put a timeline on his imminent international comeback,”

While a lot of rumors and speculations have been going on, nothing is confirmed so far. Meanwhile, on the eve of  the Pakistan fixture, head coach Rahul Dravid addressed the presser and responded to the query on Jadeja. Dravid didn’t rule Jadeja out of the ICC event and said that they don’t want to jump to conclusions. Dravid said:

“Jadeja, he has injured his knee. Obviously he is ruled out for the Asia Cup. He’s under the care of the medical team, he has gone to see the doctors, he has gone to see the experts. The World Cup is a fair way away, so we don’t want to jump to any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We’ll see how it goes,”

He added: “It’s part of sports. People get injured. It’s part of our job to try and manage them, manage how it goes. A lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Specially the World Cup is 6-7 weeks away now.”

The Indian cricket team will be next seen locking its horns with Pakistan for the second time in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 in a high-voltage clash on Sunday, 4th September.
