Rahul Dravid Finally Breaks Silence On Suryakumar Yadav’s Failure In ODI’s: The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid, recently conceded that Suryakumar Yadav’s One Day International (ODI) performances have fallen short of expectations. This admission comes in light of Suryakumar’s ongoing struggle to find form in the 50-over format, despite being touted as a promising talent in the team.

Since making his ODI debut in July 2021, Suryakumar has participated in 25 matches, notching up a total of 476 runs. However, with an average of just 23.80 and no half-century in 17 innings, his performance is underwhelming. His recent scores of 19 and 24 in the first two ODIs against the West Indies have done little to boost his standing.

Reflecting on Suryakumar’s form following India’s defeat in Barbados, Dravid said, “Surya is a really good player, no doubt about that. He has some very good performances, especially in T20 cricket, in domestic cricket, in white-ball cricket.” However, he acknowledged that Suryakumar’s ODI figures have not lived up to the standard set in his T20 career.

Dravid attributed part of Suryakumar’s struggles to the Mumbai batter’s relative lack of experience in competitive 50-over cricket. “He’s also probably learning ODIs,” Dravid said. “He has played a lot of competitive T20 cricket through the IPL before his debut for India. In One-dayers, he hasn’t played as much competitive cricket, because there is no IPL for one-dayers.”

Dravid further highlighted that Suryakumar is still figuring out his ODI game, particularly when it comes to batting in the middle overs. Despite the 32-year-old’s current struggles, Dravid reassured fans of Suryakumar’s potential, stressing the team’s commitment to providing him with opportunities.

“He is a talent and we want to give him as many opportunities as we can,” Dravid said. “It is really up to him now to take those opportunities and use them. In the kind of setup, we are, we give people as many chances as we possibly can.”

Before the West Indies tour, Suryakumar had suffered the ignominy of recording three consecutive golden ducks against Australia in a home ODI series. Despite this, the team’s management believes in his talent and potential, indicating that he will continue to receive chances to prove himself.

To conclude, Suryakumar Yadav finds himself in a challenging phase of his ODI career. While his performances have not been up to par, the support from the team management, particularly from Coach Rahul Dravid, is unwavering. Ultimately, the onus is on Suryakumar to harness this backing and translate it into strong performances on the cricket field.
