Veteran batsman Wasim Jaffer has parted ways with Punjab Kings after two seasons at the franchise in the role of their batting coach. He announced this decision on Twitter on Thursday night.
Jaffer, who has built a reputation as a witty Twitter user often coming up with funny memes linking it up with the happening in the cricket world, once again used his comic style to bid adieu to Punjab Kings, leaving the Twitterati in splits.
Jaffer used the hilarious meme of Ranbir Kapoor in his famous song Channa Mereya from the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
“Adios, and thank you @PunjabKingsIPL, it’s been a pleasure. Wishing @anilkumble1074 and the team very best for #IPL2022,” he wrote on Twitter.
Soon after the Rajasthan Royals admin, who is also known for his witty responses on social media, came up with a humorous reply. “Kahin meri job toh nahi…,” the RR admin commented. This reply got fans cracking up and received thousands of likes from netizens.

Jaffer had joined PBKS before IPL 2020 and worked under head coach Anil Kumble. Punjab’s top-order usually did well, but the malfunction of their middle and lower middle-order batters meant that they didn’t qualify for the playoffs. In fact, Punjab haven’t been in the playoffs since 2014.
While he has parted ways with PBKS, Jaffer will be back to coaching Odisha for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Jaffer joined Odisha last year after leaving Uttarakhand due to a fall-out with the association.
Jaffer, who played for Mumbai and Vidarbha, retired from domestic cricket in 2020 at the age of 42. He finished with the most caps (156), the most runs (12,038), the most centuries (40) in Ranji Trophy. Jaffer also played 31 Tests and two ODIs for India.
Speaking about Punjab Kings, the franchise made only two retentions: Mayank Agarwal (12 crore), and Arshdeep Singh (4 crore); the franchise wanted to retain KL Rahul but the opener wanted out of the Punjab franchise and has now been appointed as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants.
Punjab will go in Saturday’s mega-auction with a purse available of 72 crore.
