Ravi Ashwin Is All Set To Break Harbhajan Singh’s Long-Standing Record

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the most consistent performers for the Indian side. Ravi Ashwin, with 413 wickets, is India’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game. Ashwin enjoys a great record on home soil and is on the verge of both equaling breaking several absolute greats of the game in terms of most wickets in Test cricket.

The experienced cricketer is currently in a red-hot avatar as he has been shattering records with his stunning performances lately.

On Sunday, Ravi Ashwin became the joint third-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket as he equaled the tally of India’s veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh – 417 wickets during New Zealand’s second innings in the ongoing 1st test match against New Zealand.

Currently playing in the first Test match against New Zealand, Ashwin bagged a 3-wicket haul in the first innings of the Kanpur Test. It was his 80th Test against New Zealand in Kanpur and he equaled former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram (414 wickets) in the list of most wickets in the longest format of the game.

Now Ashwin has taken 417 wickets in 150 innings so far, while Harbhajan Singh did it in 190 Test innings. The bowling average of the Tamil Nadu-based spinner is 24.52, which is also much better than the bowling average of Harbhajan Singh 32.46.

Now Anil Kumble with 619 wickets and Kapil Dev with 434 wickets are the only two Indians who are ahead of Ravi Ashwin on the highest wicket-takers list. However, if we talk about the overall record, Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is the leading Test wicket-taker with 800 scalps.
