Ravi Shastri Confirmed The Name Of India’s Next T20 Captain

Ravi Shastri Confirmed The Name Of India’s Next T20 Captain: Virat Kohli’s tenure as the T20 skipper of the Indian cricket team came to an end on Monday after India played their last league match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. While the BCCI has already announced that Rahul Dravid will be taking over as the next head coach of Indian cricket team but the Indian board is yet to announce the next skipper of the shortest format of the game.

Though BCCI is yet to make an official announcement regarding India’s next T20I captain, Virat Kohli and outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri have dropped major hints that Rohit Sharma will be replacing Virat as India’s T20I captain.

On Monday, in a virtual press conference, Ravi Shastri talked about Rohit Sharma and highlighted his credentials – he is the most successful captain in IPL with 5 titles and has also led India to victory in the tournaments including the likes of the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup – Ravi Shastri claimed that he is ‘waiting in the wings’ to take over the captaincy. He said:

“I think in Rohit you’ve got a very capable guy. He’s won so many IPLs. He’s the vice captain of this side. He’s waiting in the wings to take that job,”

Ravi Shastri was also asked about Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from the T20 captaincy and how India will have different captains for separate formats. Talking about it, Shastri said:

“I think it’s not such a bad thing because of the bubble and because of the amount of cricket being played. The players need to be rotated around and given the space they need to spend some time with their families, see their parents. Like I said, when a guy doesn’t go home for six months, he might have his family with him, but if he’s got parents and other family and you don’t get a chance to see them, it’s not easy at all,”
