The Indian team created history at Gabba in Brisbane as they defeated Australia by three wickets on the fifth day of the fourth Test to win the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. All of India was happy but one guy who seemed to be the happiest was India’s head coach – Ravi Shastri. The Indian head coach said that he was emotional, and he had tears in his eyes. He said that the courage, the resolve, and the spirit which the whole team has shown is unbelievable. He said that despite multiple injuries and 36 all out, all the players had self-belief. He congratulated all the players, the support staff, and all the guys part of the team. He even talked about Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rishabh Pant’s great knocks on the Final Day at the Gabba.
He said, “Shubman, great great innings! Puji, you will be known as the ultimate warrior. Rishabh, simply outstanding. While you were batting you gave a lot of heart-attacks and jitters in every home in India, but what you have done is magnificent.” He also talked about how Ajinkya Rahane has led the side from the position they were in Adelaide and then to bounce back is simply outstanding. He gave a special mention to all the debutants – T Natarajan, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur (who had got injured on his actual debut). He said the performance of the debutants broke the back of Australia.
