Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri will go down as one of the most successful Indian coaches of all time. During his tenure, the Indian cricket team became the number one side across all the formats of the game.
The Indian side became a force to reckon with in the longest format of the game as they played dominant cricket in overseas conditions which made them one of the best traveling sides in the cricket world.
However, during Shastri’s tenure as head coach, the Indian side was unable to win any ICC trophy in the limited-overs format. Team India was eliminated in the semi-final from the 2019 ODI World Cup, while they failed to reach the last four in the 2021 T20 WC which was also his last assignment as head coach.
Shastri Pointed-Out India’s Major Concern
Now after his tenure came to an end, Shastri has jumped back into the commentary box where he made. Recently, while broadcasting during a match, Ravi Shastri was asked about the reason behind the lack of all-rounders in the recent past. Talking about it, Shastri said that there needs to be better communication between the captain and selectors. He said:
“There were Sehwag, Sachin, Yuvraj, Raina. But in the past 3-4 years, you had nobody. So, the whole balance of the side was compromised. So, it was good to see someone like Axar and Hooda in your side. They can bowl, they can bat,”
Ravi Shastri Revealed Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘Keeda’
Further, Shastri talked about Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘keeda’ as he talked about how Sachin was always interested to bowl. He went on to compare Sachin to the current players. He said:
“At the end of the day, surely there are batsmen around the country who enjoy bowling, who have that ‘keeda’ to bowl. Like Tendulkar had that ‘keeda’. If he finished the batting, he was like, ‘I don’t care. He would take the ball and try different deliveries like off-spin, and leg-spin. So that is keeda. So there are plenty. Ajay (Jadeja) would love to bowl after he finished his batting. So you have to identify. You have 1.4 billion people man, and you are trying to tell me, keeda nahi hai kisi batsman ke paas, bowling karne ka? Kamaal hai (No batsman is interested in bowling? It’s impossible).”
