Ravichandran Ashwin Trolls Bazball After Failure In India – India recently registered a dominating 4-1 series win in the test series at home against England. England came to India after having tasted the success of their new approach called ‘Bazball” However, India was going to be their ultimate test. They also stunned the hosts in the first test in Hyderabad. However, the young Indian side, missing some of the experienced test players, came back and won the next four games to clinch the series.
England under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have adopted a new approach named ‘Bazball’. The batters play fearlessly, play audacious shots, don’t fear to go for their shots, and score quickly in test matches. They did the same to quite an extent in the challenging tour of India. However, they were not able to sustain it, and they faltered miserably.
The Indian spinners, with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, came back strongly in the latter part of the series and were a constant source of trouble for the English batters. Ashwin also played his 100th test match in the final test match of the series in Dharamshala. He also went past the 500-test wicket mark in this series.
The only source of happiness for England was that the legendary pacer James Anderson picked his 700th test wicket in the final match of the test series. He is now ranked third on the list of the highest wicket-takers in test matches. Anderson has played 187 test matches in his career, which itself is a distant dream for 90 percent of modern players, and has taken 700 wickets at an average of 26.53.

After the end of the test series, Ashwin talked about Anderson’s statement and also about Bazball. “James Anderson went into a press conference in the second Test after winning the first considerably well. Much respect to them for winning that. He told the press that even if the 4th innings target was 500 or 600, we’ll finish it in 60 overs. Even though it was an example of their positive mindset, it felt like they had gone too far,” Ashwin said.
“The one thing I understood after the first Test is that Bazball isn’t just aggressive cricket. It is defenseless cricket. They aren’t going to play a defensive shot at all. They are going to get out if they play defence. To my surprise, Joe Root also agreed to their game plan. Because if you take world cricket’s vest defence rankings, Root is an easy number 1 on that list against spin. He also bought into their approach,” the 37-year-old said.
