Ravindra Jadeja created a world record in the fifth Test in Chennai

It was Karun Nair’s triple-hundred that caught all the limelight in the fifth Test between India and England in Chennai an rightly so because he became only the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to score a triple-hundred in Test cricket, but India’s flamboyant all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was one of the chief architects of India’s thumping victory in the fifth Test.

With the bat, Ravindra Jadeja offered very good support to Karun Nair and scored a quick-fire fifty to add more to team’s total. And with the ball, Ravindra Jadeja broke the back of England’s chase by taking 7 wickets on the final day of the fifth Test. It started with England’s captain Alastair Cook’s wicket and ended with the last wicket of the game that ensured a 4-0 victory for the home team.

In the fifth Test between India and England in Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja created a world record:

Ravindra Jadeja became the first cricketer to score a half-century, take a 10-wicket haul in the match and take 4 or more catches in a Test match.

Ravindra Jadeja was India’s match-winner in the last Test. The match was heading towards to a draw after Cook and Jennings formed a good partnership for the first wicket, but it all changed after Jadeja dismissed Cook and ended with the left-hander taking 7 out of the 10 wickets for just 48 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja’s 7 for 48 in the second innings is now the 3rd best bowling figure by an Indian bowler against England in a Test innings.

India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also heaped praise on Jadeja after the match in an interview to the official broadcaster of the series.

“It was a challenging track to bowl on, I thought he (Jadeja) did really well to vary his pace. We wanted to be very aggressive, come out and knock a couple over,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
