IPL 2022 Auction: To quench their thirst for at least one IPL trophy, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are ready to splurge crores – even a dozen of them – for star West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega-auction, slated to be held on February 12 and 13.
A report in PTI has got a source revealing that RCB have marked Jason Holder as one of three important players to go after in the IPL 2022 auction, along with senior batsman Ambati Rayudu and young all-rounder Riyan Parag.
“Ben Stokes isn’t available, Hardik Pandya and Marcus Stoinis are taken. Mitchell Marsh you never know whether he can survive a full IPL with his injury prone career, Holder has been phenomenal if one looks at his record. RCB will like to go the distance as some others will also pitch in,” a source close to RCB told PTI.
Former West Indies skipper Jason Holder has emerged as one of the premier all-format all-rounders in the world- skilled with both bat and ball across different phases of the game.
Jason Holder was with Sunrisers Hyderabad last season; in 8 games he picked 16 wickets and averaged 14 with the bat. Holder was one of the bright spots for SRH in their rather glum season.
RCB have shown interest in going big after seam-bowling all-rounders: they bought Kyle Jamieson for 15 crore and Daniel Christian for 4.8 crore, and also had traded in Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel. And it can be Jason Holder in IPL 2022 auction.
With the qualities of Jason Holder – bowling expertise with the new ball, an improved version in the death overs, and hard-hitting facilities with the bat – they are willing to spend about a dozen crore from their purse of 57 crore.
RCB, who are yet to finalize their captain after Virat Kohli relinquished his position last season, are also ready to spend a handsome amount for Ambati Rayudu and Riyan Parag.
“For Holder, they have reserved ₹12 crore and another ₹8 crore for Rayudu and ₹7 crore for Parag. If they spend ₹27 crore approximately on these players, they would have another ₹28 crore left.
“The core with Kohli, Maxwell, Siraj, Holder, Rayudu and Parag will be set. Let’s hope they can get two out of preferred three,” the source added.
