After going down 4-0 in the Ashes, England was surely not the favourite for the ODI series. But England stunned everyone with a splendid performance as they won the won the first One Day International by 5 wickets.

The star of England’s win was Jason Roy who played a brilliant knock of 180 off just 151 balls. Joe Root, the skipper too played a vital inning of 91 to help England reach the target of 320.
England took a 1-0 lead having smashed Australia in the first ODI. As England got to this famous win, Jason Roy got the better of the following records.
1. Highest Individual Score By an England Batsman in ODIs

With this great knock Jason Roy went past Alex Hales who previously held this record. A score of 171 against Pakistan by Hales was the previous best.

This inning of Jason Roy also became the highest individual total at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Roy surpassed Steve Waugh who played a staggering knock of 173 against the Windies in 2001.
3. Second Highest Individual Score Against Kangaroos

This knock of by Jason Roy also ensured that he takes the second spot on the list of highest individual totals against the Aussies. Rohit Sharma’s double ton remains the first.

4. 5th highest score while chasing

This score registered by Alex Hales is now also the 5th highest Individual score in successful chases. On top of this list is Shane Watson with a score of 185.
5. Second best score in Australia

This also turned out to be the second highest individual score in Australia. The first highest is a score of 215 by the mighty Chris Gayle.
