The latest report about Hardik Pandya and his much-talked-about trade/transfer from the Gujarat Titans to the Mumbai Indians is going to stun the fans further.
According to a recent by The Indian Express, Mumbai Indians, who are owned by the Ambani family, paid a gigantic sum to Gujarat Titans, which is estimated to be around INR 100 crore to trade Hardik Pandya back.
Pandya had spent 7 seasons from 2015 to 2021 at Mumbai, winning 4 IPL trophies. He was not retained by MI ahead of the IPL 2022 season when GT, a new franchise, roped him in and made him their skipper.
Hardik Pandya captained GT to two consecutive IPL finals, winning one and losing one. MI, under Rohit Sharma, didn’t reach the IPL final in the last three seasons, and in the same period CSK, MI’s biggest rival, won 2 trophies and equaled them at 5 IPL titles.
Now, with MI being desperate for success, and Rohit Sharma being 136 years of age, the MI owners and management decided to bring back Pandya with one year still remaining in Pandya’s contract with GT. However, GT let him go and in return got a huge transfer fee, with Hardik being entitled to half of it.
How much money did Mumbai Indians give Gujarat Titans for Hardik Pandya?
According to a report in Indian Express, MI paid INR 100 crore for this trade to GT, and Pandya is eligible to get about INR 50 crore from this. The report pointed out that while MI is owned by the business family of the Ambani, GT is owned by the management firm CVC Capital, who saw this as a profit for them.
“The earnings from the Pandya deal will be visible on the CVC Capital’s balance sheet at the end of the financial year and this is expected to result in a spike in its valuation,” the report added.
It is also strongly believed that Hardik Pandya had put a pre-condition of being made the MI captain immediately after the trade. This was proven to be true when only 20 days after the trade, MI announced Pandya as their new skipper, bringing end of Rohit Sharma’s decade-long captaincy tenure.
