The final of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played on Sunday at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo between India and Sri Lanka.

India topped the Super 4 round while Sri Lanka were second, with Bangladesh finishing third and Pakistan fourth.

Both India and Sri Lanka had 4 points each in the Super 4 round. India recorded wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka but lost to Bangladesh, though it was a second-string side without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya.

Sri Lanka, who had started the tournament without four of their first-choice bowlers including Wanindu Hasaranga, defeated Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Group A round, and then recorded wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan in the Super 4 round while lost to India.

In this article, we will tell you about the prize money details, and how the much the winner and runner-up of the Asia Cup 2023 will receive.

How much money will the winner and runner-up of Asia Cup 2023 get?

The Asia Cup 2023 champions will receive the prize money of $200 thousand, which is INR 1.25 crore. The runner-up of Asia Cup 2023 will take home prize money of $100,000, which is INR 82 lakh.

Not just India and Sri Lanka, the two finalists, but all the other teams participating in the tournament will also get money from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Bangladesh will get $62,500 (INR  51 lakh) for finishing third in the Super 4 round and Pakistan will get $31,250 (INR 25 lakh) for finishing fourth in the Super 4. The two other teams who were part of the competition, but failed to reach the Super 4 – which are Nepal and Afghanistan – will get $12,500 (INR 10 lakh) each. 

Ahead of the final, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka spoke about the passion of the fans for their cricket team.

“It’s not a new thing for Sri Lankan fans,” Shanaka said. “After a match finishes, I get a lot of messages: ‘Why [do] you guys always give us heart attacks?’. We were very emotional [on qualifying for the final] – and the crowd as well. It is a big thing for us to come to the final in two consecutive years.”

The final is sold out in Colombo.
