Legendary Australian cricketer, Ricky Ponting reckoned that the batting style of India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has been putting a lot of pressure on his partners. In the three tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian batsman has scored 113 runs at an average of 22.60. However, his strike-rate of 27.03, which has concerned several cricketers including Ricky Ponting.

On day 3 of the ongoing third test match, Pujara scored his half-century off 174 balls, beating his previous slowest knock against South Africa in 2018, which he pulled off in 173 balls. However, what hurt India more was the fact that Pujara was dismissed immediately after getting to his fifty.

Meanwhile, during the tea break of Day 3 in India’s third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Ricky Ponting decided to conduct an interactive Question and Answer session on his official Twitter handle. He was soon flooded with questions from the fans. Among them, one fan asked him about Pujara’s style of batting. The fan wrote:

“How do you rate Pujara’s initial batting- 16 of 100 balls at such a great surface to bat on? Is that a right approach here?”

Ricky Ponting soon noticed the tweet and was quick to respond to the fan. In his reply, Ricky Ponting said that it wasn’t the right approach by Cheteshwar Pujara. He also suggested that Pujara needs to be more proactive with his scoring rate. Ponting wrote:

“I don’t think it was the right approach, I think he needed to be a bit more proactive with his scoring rate because I felt it was putting too much pressure on his batting partners”
