Former Australia captain, Ricky Ponting suggested that Khaleel Ahmed, a left-arm fast bowler, could be a valuable addition to the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar series in Down Under. He believes that having a left-armer in the team would be advantageous, and despite Khaleel recently playing in a T20 series in Zimbabwe, Ponting sees him as an ideal fit for the Test squad’s touring needs.
Ricky Ponting Names This Backup Bowler As The Most Potent Weapon Of Team India In Border-Gavaskar Series
“Someone like Khaleel Ahmed I think could find himself on the Test tour. A left-armer would be ideal for them to have in their touring squad. I know he’s just been over in Zimbabwe recently and played that (T20I) series over there, but a left-armer would be ideal for them to have in their touring squad,” Ponting said.
India will travel to Australia at the end of the year for a 5-match test series in Australia. This is one of the most highlighting series just like the Ashes. Winning a series in Australia is one of the toughest prospect. However, India have won in 2018 by a 2-1 margin and in 2020-21 by a margin of 2-1 and scripted history. Moreover, India have won the last four Border-Gavaksar series ( 2 at home and 2 away). Australia will be looking to punch hard and take the revenge. It is going to be a cracker of a series.
India will need the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj firing. However, they do need backup pacers as well given the lengthy tour. Khaleel Ahmed will definitely be a hot prospect given he is a left-arm fast bowler and has played in Delhi Capitals under Ponting.
