Ricky Ponting Picks Top 5 Current Batsmen; No Place For Rohit Sharma

Former Australia captain and legendary batsman Ricky Ponting was named the top-5 Test batter of the present time, where he selected only one Indian player. Ricky Ponting named the top-5 batters during the fourth Test match in the ongoing Ashes series being played in Sydney.

Naming his top-5 batters, Ricky Ponting picked England captain Joe Root as his first name in the top-5 batters, who scored the highest 1708 Test runs in the year 2021. However, in his first Test innings of 2022, Joe Root has failed to open his account so far.

Another name in Ponting’s top-5 list is Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, who is in first place in the ICC Test batting rankings. He has also impressed one and all with his terrific performance in the current Ashes series.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was picked at number 3 position in the top-5 batters list. He played an important role in leading the New Zealand cricket team to the final clash with his batting and he also played a brilliant inning in the final match against India.

Ricky Ponting picked Steve Smith at the number 4 position. However, Smith hasn’t been able to contribute much with the bat in the recent past. The last century came off Smith’s bat against India in Sydney last year.

The last name of Ponting’s list was Indian captain and star batsman Virat Kohli. Only one Indian cricketer could make it to the top-5 batter list of Ricky Ponting. Virat has been going through a rough phase in his career. The last century that came off his bat was two years ago, which was against Bangladesh in the Day-Night Test played in Kolkata in November 2019.
