Their captain, Rishabh Pant, has made a comeback to cricket after one and half years, after suffering a near fatal car accident. However, as was normal, he hasn’t looked in the best of touches in the two games that DC have played. Today, Delhi Capitals will face off against Chennai Super Kings in Vizag. It promises to a thrilling game with the defending champions, coming off two wins in two games.

There was a lot of murmur that Prithvi Shaw will make a triumphant comeback in IPL 2024, by opening the innings for Delhi Capitals. Off late, he has been sidelined from the Indian cricket team and has greatly suffered with his fitness issues. However, Delhi Capitals did not include Prithvi Shaw in both of their games against PBKS and RR. That came as a surprise for all the fans and experts.

However, ahead of the match against Chennai Super Kings, Head Coach Ricky Ponting talked about the situation with Prithvi Shaw. He stated that they did not have Nortje in the XI in the first game and that allowed them to play with four overseas batters. They asked Mitchell Marsh to open the innings as he has been quite successful opening the innings for Australia in T20I’s. Ponting added that if Prithvi Shaw manages to impress everyone in training, they will include him in the playing XI.

“Our team make-up in the first game without (Anrich) Nortje allowed us to play four overseas batsmen. So, by doing that, we pushed Mitchell Marsh to the top of the order, which pushed Prithvi out. We will look at Prithvi at training today and see how well he plays. If he impresses everybody, we will consider him for tomorrow. We feel that a really good game is just around the corner for us. In fact, I am sure we will have a more positive intent going into this game,” said Ponting.
