Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has expressed his disappointment over the performance and technique of the Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Time and again, Wriddhiman Saha has been hailed as the best wicketkeeper in the world by head coach Ravi Shastri, skipper Virat Kohli and by fans as well because of his consistently impressive performances behind the stumps. However, Saha left everyone disappointed when he made an uncharacteristic mistake on day two of the ongoing game.

Well, it happened on in the 15th over when Labuschagne hit the Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery behind the stumps. Marnus was all squared up while trying to defend the ball without any footwork. The ball touched the edge and went behind the stumps. However, a mistake from Saha gave Maruns a lifeline.

Neither Wriddhiman Saha nor Cheteshwar Pujara, who was also standing at first slip, could catch the ball. Though Saha made a full stretch dive but he failed to grab the ball in his hand and it went for a four.

The legendary Australian cricketer, Ricky Ponting, who has been covering the series as a commentator in the ongoing Test series between India and Australia, slammed Wriddhiman Saha as he was not at all impressed with the display. Ponting called it poor from Saha to not getting his hands on the ball. He said:

“That’s a poor piece of keeping, not to get anything on it.”

Earlier during the Day 1 of the first test, Ricky Ponting, while commenting, had expressed his astonishment over the absence of Rishabh Pant from the playing squad. He heaped praises on Rishabh Pant and stated that Pant comes with an X-factor. He had said:

“I’m surprised [that Rishabh Pant wasn’t picked]. I think he’s a terrific young player, X-factor about him with the bat. Probably, not as good a keeper as [Wriddhiman] Saha and that’s probably the reason they’ve left him out,”
