“He Has Done Everything Right” – Ricky Ponting Weighs In On The Possibility Of Travis Head In IPL 2024

In a riveting final clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023, India, riding high on an impeccable 10-on-10 victory streak, faced a heartbreaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Despite stellar performances from Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma, India could only manage a modest 240 runs.

India’s batting lineup showcased toughness with a commendable half-century from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, coupled with a quickfire start from the explosive Rohit Sharma. Their contributions laid the foundation for what was anticipated to be a triumphant final.

However, the narrative took an unexpected turn in the second inning, as Australian batsman Travis Head emerged as the game-changer with a spectacular 137-run innings. This wasn’t the first time Head had shattered Indian dreams, as he had previously dominated in the ICC World Test Championship final earlier in the year with a century.

As the cricketing world eagerly anticipates the IPL 2024 auction, scheduled for December 1 in Dubai, all eyes are on Travis Head. His explosive batting style and the ability to bowl off-spin make him a coveted player for teams seeking a dynamic T20 presence.

Ricky Ponting, the former World Cup-winning captain of Australia and head coach of the Delhi Capitals, shared his thoughts on Travis Head’s upcoming stint in the IPL. Ponting emphasised, “Travis has done everything right to make sure he gets a deal this year.” He revealed that Head missed out on an opportunity last year due to his wedding, which clashed with the IPL season.

“I rang him and told him I was going for him in the auction, and he said, ‘Just to let you know, I’m getting married two weeks into the IPL,'” Ponting recounted. This unexpected twist led to Head missing three crucial weeks at the beginning of the tournament, a gamble the team owners weren’t willing to take.

His dual prowess as a destructive T20 batsman and a reliable off-spin bowler adds a unique dimension to his value. Ponting said: “He would have had a deal last year if it wasn’t for his wedding. His wedding got in the middle of it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to pick him up at Delhi. I rang him and told him I was going for him in the auction, and he said, ‘Just to let you know, I’m getting married two weeks into the IPL’He would have missed three weeks at the start of the tournament, which our owners weren’t willing to take that gamble on.”
