It was surely a valuable learning experience for the young cricketer, guiding India out of trouble and sharing the crease with a senior batter like Rohit. India faced a challenging situation with the early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal, followed by golden ducks from Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson. Even Shivam Dube struggled on the tacky Chinnaswamy stadium surface. Rinku joined the action during the powerplay, playing the initial overs with caution.
Rohit, at the opposite end, reached his fifty in 41 balls. The pair accelerated during the middle overs and went all out in the death overs. Rohit Sharma showcased unconventional shots like reverse sweeps and switch-hits, becoming the first batter to achieve five T20I hundreds. The star opener amassed 121 runs off 69 deliveries. Rinku, with his innings of 69 off 39 balls, solidified his reputation as India’s finisher. The last over by Karim Janat saw a remarkable 36 runs, tying the record for the most runs scored in an over in T20Is.
Rohit and Rinku formed a remarkable 190-run partnership, setting a new record for the highest partnership in India in T20Is. Despite this, Afghanistan didn’t back down, and after the 40th over, the scores were level at 212. The match unfolded into an intense double super-over showdown, and India emerged victorious, completing a clean sweep of the series.
