23-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant joined two legends in a unique list with his knock of 29 runs in the ongoing 2nd day of Boxing Day Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Rishabh Pant walked in at number 6 and formed a decent partnership of crucial 57-runs with the stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who went past his 23rd half-century score during their partnership. Smashing three boundaries in an over by Pat Cummins, Rishabh scored 29 runs off 40 balls.
With his knock of 29 runs, Rishabh Pant joined Wally Hammond, Rusi Surti, and Richards in a unique list. Pant became the fourth visiting batsman to score 25 or more in eight consecutive innings in Australia since his first and last visit in the 2018-2019 tour. So far, his scores read: 25, 28, 36, 30, 39, 33, 159* and 29.
However, these legends ended their run after their eighth innings in Australia. It will be interesting to see if Rishabh Pant is able to take a lead and create a unique streak for himself.
Meanwhile, talking about the game, Ajinkya Rahane led team India went past Australia’s first innings total to take the lead after the game resumed on the final season of Day 2 after a slight delay due to rain.
Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Starc before the tea break, however, after the tea break, Ajinkya Rahane continued with his brilliance and took the Indian cricket team past Australia’s first-innings total of 195 runs and take a lead in the game.
If Ravindra Jadeja along with the stand-in skipper are able to play the whole of the final session then team India could have a solid lead on their hands for Day 3.
