Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been receiving praises from all around after his stellar show with the bat against Sri Lanka in the just-concluded 2nd Test match. Pant is currently in a red-hot form as he has been shattering records and contributing some crucial runs for his side.
After giving a superb performance in Mohali, Rishabh Pant continued with his brilliance in Bengaluru as well. He went on to play an even bigger role to ensure India a series sweep. While in Mohali, he missed out on a much-deserving century, in Bengaluru things were different. It was a rank-turner field but Pant kept his calm and played his natural game on the pitch, where other batters were seen struggling.
While in the first innings, he scored 39 off 26 balls, in the second innings, he broke a long-standing record of legendary player Kapil Dev. Pant scored the fastest Test fifty by an Indian batter on Sunday when he reached his half-century in 28 deliveries on the second day of the 2nd Test match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
Later, after the match, Rishabh Pant who was adjudged the Man of the series talked about his performance and highlighted how he has improved his game. He said:
“I think both (batting and keeping), you need to keep evolving, I’ve made mistakes in the past and want to keep improving. It’s not in my mindset, the wicket was difficult to play, so I thought I will look for quick runs. I’ll do whatever the team management wants me to do (on batting at number five). I think it’s more about confidence, previously, I used to think too much, now I’m only focusing on every ball (referring to his improved keeping skills)”
Indian captain Rohit Sharma was also very impressed with the performance of Rishabh. After the match, Rohit lauded Pant and said:
“ He seems to get better in every Test, especially in these conditions (on Rishabh Pant). The England series (at home) was challenging, but looks like the confidence is back, with his catches and stumping. “
