In a major development, Virat Kohli on Saturday stepped down from the position of Test captaincy of the Indian cricket team. The big announcement came only after a day of India’s 3-match Test defeat against South Africa.

Sharing a long heartfelt post on Twitter, the veteran Indian cricketer expressed how he has “left everything out there” since taking charge seven years ago. In a Twitter post, he said, “Every thing has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it’s now. There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey but there has never been lack of effort or lack of belief.”

Among many, Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) and son of Arun Jaitley, also posted a heartfelt message for Virat Kohli after he stepped down from the Indian Test captaincy.

In his Tweet, Rohan Jaitley applauded Virat for setting the benchmarks that will inspire generations to come. He also expressed how he wants the former skipper to continue to make the nation proud with his performances. He wrote:

“Your stint as Captain of the Indian Cricket Team over the past —years ensured that the Team reached unprecedented heights. The benchmarks set by you will inspire generations to come. Lucky to have you as part of the sport & I am sure you will continue to make us all very proud !”
