Rohit Sharma’s Coach Reveals Why He Will Succeed In England Against NZ

India’s star opener, Rohit Sharma is one of the best cricketers in the world right now. It was in the year 2013 when MS Dhoni showed faith in Rohit and gave a new lease in his cricketing career and asked him to open the innings in the limited-overs. However, ever since then, there has been no stopping for Hitman.

During his career, Rohit has achieved many milestones. He is the only player to hit three ODI double tons and the only Indian with 4 T20I centuries to his name.

However, Rohit has remained under the radar since time immemorial, when it comes to the longest format of the game. The Virat Kohli-led side tried to get the most of him in Test format by making Rohit the Test opener. From thereon, the star cricketer has slammed 4 centuries, including a doubleton, and has two half-centuries under his name.

All thanks to his stunning performances, the cricketer will be opening in the longest format of the game in their upcoming World Test Championship final (WTC) — against New Zealand — followed by five Tests versus England in August-September.

Talking about Rohit’s performances in the UK, the cricketer has played a solitary game, where he returned with scores of 28 and 6 in the third Test of the five-match series against England during India’s 2014 tour.

However, Rohit would be looking forward to leaving a mark on his performance in the upcoming games.

Recently, Rohit’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad talked about how Rohit can succeed in England’s conditions next month, where he has played only a solitary Test so far. Talking to Sportskeeda in an exclusive interview, Dinesh advised that Rohit has to focus harder and play every ball to its merit. He said:

“He just has to focus harder there, play every ball to its merit because there will be significant movement. But talking about the recent home series against England on turning tracks, Rohit played proper cricketing shots while others seemed to struggle. So I am sure he will adjust his game in England as well because it’s all about adjusting to different conditions at the highest level.”

He added:

“Yes, he might some face problems because the ball swings in England more than in any other country and you have to be extremely focused in order to handle that movement. But if he faces the quality bowlers that India have during net sessions or intra-squad matches, then it might help him to acclimatise to the conditions better,”

Rohit’s coach also praised his performances in Australia earlier this year. He said:

“Even in Australia earlier this year, the way he batted caught everyone’s eye and he made shot-making look so easy while playing the fast bowlers. He never seemed like getting out, but again, there were a few innings where he threw his wicket away. He can’t afford to do that this time around,”
