India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma is one of the destructive batsmen in limited overs cricket. In the last few years, he has taken his hitting to a new level and earned the title of ‘Hitman’.

Rohit Sharma Creates A New Record

Rohit is a versatile batsman who can adjust his game according the condition. But, if we talk about his performance in ODI cricket at home, he has been simply unstoppable. Both his double hundreds in ODI cricket were scored on Indian soil and he averages 55 at home.

Rohit started his career as a middle order batsman but it was MS Dhoi’s decision to push him at the top of order, and, since then, he has not looked back and established himself as one of the best batters in ODI cricket. Rohit has added more shots to his game and also improved his shot selection.

In the fifth and final ODI of the recently concluded series between India and Australia, Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant match-winning hundred, his second of the series. It wasn’t an easy going as Rohit took 15 balls to score his first run, but once he got his eye in and got used to the pace of the pitch, he played freely and scored runs all around the park. It was not a very easy wicket to bat but Rohit didn’t play lose strokes and held one end up.

During the course of his innings, Rohit Sharma (42 innings) also became the fastest batsman to score 2000 runs in ODIs, on Indian soil. Earlier, this record was held was Sourav Ganguly who had scored his first 2000 runs in ODIs in 45 innings. Indian captain Virat Kohli is at the number 3 spot as he took 46 runs to achieve this feat.

Rohit is only the 12th batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score 2000 runs in India. His rise as an opening batsman is one of the most inspiring and motivating stories.

Fastest to 2,000 runs in India:

Rohit Sharma in 42 innings

Sourav Ganguly in 45 innings

Virat Kohli in 46 innings

Navjot Singh Sidhu in 49 innings

MS Dhoni in 49 innings
