In quite a heinous and shameful act, some fans of Rohit Sharma have resorted to abusing Hardik Pandya and his wife Nataša Stanković under their Instagram posts after Pandya was announced as the new Mumbai Indians captain.
Only 20 days after his trade to the Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans was announced, Hardik Pandya was named as the new MI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, who has led the franchise from 2013 to 2022, bringing all their glory of 5 IPL titles and one Champions League trophy.
Clearly, the fans of Rohit Sharma were hurt by this decision of MI. However, the point of view of the MI management was that to groom Pandya as their captain for the next 4-5 years, since Rohit Sharma is already 36 years old and next year’s IPL might be his last season. But, it has been learned, that Hardik apparently put the pre-condition of being named the captain of MI before agreeing to the trade from GT, whom he led to two consecutive IPL finals, winning one and losing one on the last ball.

It has now been reported that the talks of the trade between Hardik Pandya and the Mumbai Indians started after IPL 2023 was completed, in which MI failed to reach an IPL final for the third season in a row under Rohit while Pandya led GT to two consecutive finals.
The Indian Express has reported that Rohit was informed before the World Cup 2023 that Hardik would take over the MI captaincy. The report added that Hardik had set a precondition for his return that would immediately take over the captaincy. Hardik agreed to the trade only on the condition that he would be Mumbai’s new captain for the IPL 2024 season.
