Rohit Sharma’s injury has become one of the most talked-about topics in the Indian cricket fraternity. He recently missed out on the ongoing limited-overs cricket due to a hamstring injury he faced while playing for his team Mumbai Indians in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League and his inclusion for the Test series is playing out like a thriller.

Everyone’s worried about the injury and his fitness and is wondering how his rehab is progressing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Recently, it was learned that Rohit Sharma is putting in the extra yards to get back fit and not just this he is looking forward to shedding a few kilograms to cut down on the chances of getting niggles in the future.

A source close to BCCI revealed TOI that Rohit Sharma doesn’t want to take chances this time and he very conscious about the fitness standards. The source revealed:

“Unless the physio gives a clean chit, a player can’t undergo high-intensity fitness test. But if he is undergoing rehab for an injury to his lower body, he can work on his upper body’s conditioning and shed weight. A lighter upper body will ensure he doesn’t put much strain on the dodgy hamstring,” a BCCI source told TOI.

The source added:

“Rohit Sharma doesn’t want to take any chance this time. He is very conscious about fitness standards. He has been plagued by the injuries over the last year. Then the lockdown happened but he had been on the road for two years too. That didn’t really give him much of chance to work on his fitness. Now he wants to ensure he is in perfect shape. His body is ready to endure the rigours of non-stop cricket over the next year,”
