India’s limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma is on the verge of breaking MS Dhoni’s record of most sixes for India in ODIs at home with just one more big hit. Sharma, known for his eye-catching pull shot, is tied with Dhoni at 116 sixes in home ODI while playing for India.

MS Dhoni recorded this figure in 113 home innings while Sharma in 69 innings. Rohit can go past this with one more six in the upcoming third ODI versus West Indies in Ahmedabad. Dhoni, though, has 123 total ODI sixes in India as he smacked 7 maximums while batting for Asia XI in three innings.

At the same time, Virat can leave Sourav Ganguly behind in this matter; both of them have hit 57 sixes so far on Indian soil in ODIs while playing for India; Ganguly struck a single six for Asia XI.

Also, Rohit Sharma will eye another record in the third ODI versus West Indies: on 245 sixes currently, with five more hits over the fence, Sharma will become the first India to thump 250 ODI maximums; he had already left behind Dhoni who thwacked 229 sixes in his ODI career.

Overall there are only three batsmen who have hit more sixes than Rohit in ODIs: Shahid Afridi holds the record for the most number of sixes – 351 – in ODIs, followed by Chris Gayle with 331 maximums. Sanath Jayasuriya is third with 270 biggies; Rohit is just 25 sixes behind Jayasuriya.

A bit down in the list are Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly who walloped 195 and 190 sixes respectively in the 50-over internationals.

Overall in all internationals, Chris Gayle is leading the charts with a mammoth 553 maximums; Shahid Afridi is a well-behind second with 476 sixes, and likely to be eclipsed soon by third-placed Rohit Sharma who has beaten 458 international maximums.
